“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” – C.S. Lewis
Life can be full of challenge in a whole myriad of ways. As a Counsellor and Psychotherapist I can offer you a welcoming, safe space where you can be truly heard, seen and valued for the person that you are and help to unlock and grow the unique set of qualities you already hold. You may be looking to “weather the storm”, explore current issues or those from past including in childhood, or you may be looking to create change. Our work starts with you, your difficulties and the therapeutic goals you wish to work towards. It might be that you are not sure where they are at the moment and that is okay, too. We will work together as a partnership, an alliance, creating an environment and relationship where you can be sure, full of strong and sometimes conflicting thoughts and feelings or embarking on growth. There will likely be a combination of all three and more at different times, but we will do it all at a pace and in a way that feels safe to you.
I am an integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist based predominantly on Humanistic models of counselling. This means I work with the whole person and I place a lot of value on the relationship we will develop. Through ten years of working with people who have suffered trauma, I am skilful at embodying this relationship in trust, transparency, respect, compassion and empathy. Whilst all of those values are common to every relationship I hold with clients, they look different with each client. I value you, your story, your circumstances, your priorities and preferences highly and we will create our own path on an individual level.
My areas of work are with all adults for short or long term sessions. I specialise in trauma, particularly sexual violence and abuse and childhood trauma. In turn I have experience in PTSD and related symptoms, attachment, nervous system regulation, self-esteem, confidence, self-harm, anger, guilt, social isolation and many mental health conditions including personality and mood disorders and anxiety.
I believe that recovery is more than a reduction of symptoms and you deserve a life that is meaningful to you, knowing who you are and that you are deserving and capable of one.
How we work together:
There is no fixed pathway or structure as it comes down to individual needs and preferences. There are lots of factors which might guide our way, such as the areas you want to focus on, how many sessions you want or are able to have and whether you are looking to explore and be seen, heard and witnessed, or if you are looking to create change. Although I will bring the theory and “technical parts”, it is vital we see you and the way you are working assists us on reaching your goals. It is also important to say that the way we work is kept under review. We might make changes as we go to incorporate more of what reaches you and resonates with you. I will always make space for you to express your preferencees and the way we work will be truly personalised.
I have had all of my Covid vaccinations and my booster.
