BRAINSPOTTING

What is brainspotting (BSP)

BSP is a powerful psychological brain-based treatment of emotionally and body conditions. It was developed by David Grand PH.D. Brain-based therapy is the fastest growing area in the field of psychological health. It is proven to breakthrough areas that talking therapy cannot reach.

BSP is used to identify, release and heal underlying psychological trauma from experiences such as:
Anger, anxiety, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, depression, PTSD, sports performance, trauma, performance, creativity enhancements etc. It can also find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience.

It is being widely used by professional athletes, entertainers, actors, business leaders,  entrepreneurs, war veterans and survivors of complex trauma.

What is a brainspot?
A brainspot is a position where a negative experience is held in your brain. This correlates with an eye position, so when you are looking outside at the found position you are also looking at your internal process at the same time.

What does Brainspotting do?

BSP uses a person’s eye position to access where they hold unprocessed trauma or negative experience in the brain.

Where we look affects how we feel, so we use this to target the exact eye spot where the most negative emotion is held.

Once we have this spot the brain can then go on to find what it needs to find, release and process it, until it is healed. This allows the brain to heal from the inside out and from the bottom up.

As we know, trauma can impact on the body so BSP is not only effective for emotional issues but it is also very effective with physical issues too.

After a session you may find you are very emotional or exhausted. In the following days you may feel sad, depressed and have nightmares. This is perfectly normal and it means your brain is still processing memories.

Some of us have unexplained symptoms that we don’t have a medical diagnosis for. This can often be down to blocked emotions and symptoms that are stuck in our bodies, resulting in us feeling the symptom over and over again as it is unable to complete.

We suffer these incomplete responses until we unblock them, allowing them to flow through us and release. Brainspotting enables us to unblock them.

These could come in the form of: tension headaches, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome to name but a few.

Length of the sessions
Before the eye movements part of BSP can begin we work on building resources within yourself, as we need you to be able to emotionally regulate whilst we do the trauma work. These sessions are the normal therapy hour in length, unless you would like to discuss other options.

Whilst the processing takes place we may need longer sessions, so these can be discussed and arranged.

The amount of sessions needed is dependant upon the complexity of your problems. With longstanding issues BSP may take multiple sessions.

Usually BSP is used as part of your overall therapy journey, to help you reach your treatment goals.
