Grey Matters Centre

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you to discuss your problems and difficult feelings. It is a private, safe, trustworthy and confidential place to explore any issues you may be facing. Needing help is a normal part of being a human and asking for support shows courage and strength in taking the difficult step in resolving a problem and being in control of your life. Whether you have a diagnosed conditions such as anxiety or depression, or you are finding life difficult at the moment, we can support you in making positive changes you want.

At Grey Matters Centre we are all passionate, motivated and have the mission to provide the best service possible to a wide variety of mental health needs whilst providing people with a place to turn when they need it the most. We are providing a low-cost therapy service to those on a low income as we all know free counselling on the NHS is limited and waiting lists are extremely high right now. We understand money is an issue and for many people this is going to be a very difficult time financially so we feel the importance of limiting the impact on people’s mental health.

As part of our team we proudly offer you high quality students on their Level 6 Counselling Degree. They offer you valued support whilst completing their placement hours on their journey to become professional qualified counsellors and therapists. The students have been through an intensive interview process, to make sure they have the same passion and are committed to the same mission as us. They are all members of their appropriate professional body e.g. The BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), they have regular clinical supervison and have all their criteria in place.

Each therapist will have successfully completed at least 2 years of advanced training and have been assessed as competent to work with the public in a clinical setting.

If you would like to be considered for our low cost therapy, then please get in touch with us. You are most welcome to contact us directly, you don’t need to go through your G.P. or any other agency.

Before you are considered we will explore what has brought you to therapy, the areas you would like to work on and your goals.

When this assessment is completed we will let you know if you have been successful for this service.  If you have passed our criteria and if you have decided you would like to go ahead, you will be matched with the most suitable trainee therapist for your needs.

Your therapist will get in touch with you to arrange a time to contact you to book an appointment with them.

A typical session is fifty minutes long, once a week or fortnightly. You will be able to have up to 12 sessions, subject to a review and the clinical judgement of the therapist and coordinator as we understand we are all unique and difficulties vary.

Our low-cost therapy sessions are £25 per 50 minutes and are to be paid at the time of booking your appointment. 48 hours notice is required for cancellations or the full fee is charged and no refund given.
