ANXIETY

Anxiety can touch every part of life – your thoughts, your body, your relationships, and your sense of peace. For many, it shows up quietly at first: a racing mind, restless nights, a constant sense of being “on edge”. For others, it can feel overwhelming – a pounding heart, tight chest, or the sudden rush of panic that seems to come from nowhere.

You might notice yourself overthinking every decision, avoiding situations that feel uncomfortable, or feeling exhausted from trying to hold everything together. Anxiety often convinces us that we should be able to “just calm down” or “get over it,” but that’s not how it works. Anxiety is not a personal failing – it’s a natural response that has simply become overactive.

Understanding what’s happening

Anxiety is your body and mind’s way of trying to protect you. It’s rooted in the same survival instincts that once kept our ancestors safe. But in today’s world, that system can become stuck in overdrive – reacting to modern-day pressures as though they’re life-threatening dangers. Recognising symptoms is the first step towards understanding them. You may notice:

  • Racing or intrusive thoughts
  • A sense of dread or fear that’s hard to explain
  • Physical sensations like dizziness, nausea or heart palpitations
  • Difficulty concentrating or relaxing
  • Avoidance of social or professional situations
  • Sleep disturbance or fatigue

When we name and understand what’s happening, we can begin to change our relationship with anxiety – instead of fighting it, we can learn to listen to what it is trying to tell us.

In therapy we explore what lies beneath your anxiety – the thoughts, experiences, and patterns that keep it alive. We work gently, at your pace, using approaches that help calm the nervous system and build emotional resilience.

You’ll learn tools to ground yourself in the present moment, challenge anxious thoughts, and reconnect with a sense of safety in your own body. Over time, anxiety becomes less of a force that controls your life and more of a signal that you understand and know how to respond to.
