ANGER MANANGEMENT

Anger is a powerful emotion – one that can rise quickly, take us by surprise, and sometimes leave us feeling ashamed or out of control afterwards. But anger itself is not bad or wrong. It is a natural human response, and when we learn to understand and work with it, anger can become a guide – showing us where our boundaries have been crossed, where pain has gone unacknowledged, or where change is needed.

Many people come to therapy feeling frightened by their anger or guilty for expressing it. Others have learnt to push it down, only to find it resurfacing as resentment, anxiety or physical tension. However anger shows up for you, it’s simply a signal that something inside is asking to be heard.

Understanding What’s Happening

Anger can appear in many forms. It might feel like an explosive outburst, a simmering irritation that never quite settles, or a deep internal frustration that feels impossible to name. Underneath anger, there is often hurt, fear, disappointment, or a sense of powerlessness.

You might notice:

  • Snapping or shouting more easily than usual
  • Feeling tense, on edge, or unable to relax
  • Turning anger inward as self-criticism or guilt
  • Difficulty communicating needs or boundaries
  • Feeling ashamed or frightened of your own reactions

Recognising these experiences is an important step towards understanding the deeper emotions that anger is trying to protect.

Working Together to Heal

In therapy, we create a safe space to explore anger without judgement. We work together to uncover what lies beneath it – the unspoken feelings, unmet needs, or past experiences that may be fuelling your reactions.

You’ll learn to:

  • Identify early signs of anger and understand your triggers
  • Express emotions safely and constructively
  • Develop calming and grounding techniques
  • Reconnect with assertiveness rather than aggression
  • Transform anger into a source of clarity, strength, and healthy boundaries.

Over time, anger becomes less of something to fear and more of something to understand – a message not a threat.

There is Hope

You can learn to live with anger in a healthy, balanced way. When it’s understood and managed with compassion, anger can become a powerful force for healing, self-respect, and change.

You don’t have to struggle with it alone. With the right support, it’s possible to move from reaction to reflection – to respond, rather than explode or suppress – and to find peace in knowing that every feeling, even anger, can be met with understanding and care.
