Supporting Adults Through Major Life Transitions, Chronic Illness and Emotional Exhaustion

Sometimes life changes gradually – but the emotional impact can feel enormous.

You may be adjusting to a health condition, living with chronic fatigue or M.E., navigating menopause or retirement, grieving a loss, or quietly struggling with a version of life that no longer feels like the one you expected.

On the outside, you might still be managing day-to-day life. Inside, you feel emotionally exhausted overwhelmed, anxious, low, or unsure of who you are now.

Many people I work with are used to being the one who keeps things going – caring for others, pushing through, staying strong, or trying to adapt quietly without wanting to burden anyone else.

But living with change, loss, uncertainty, or reduced capacity can affect far more than people realise.

Sometimes you are grieving:

  • The life you had before.
  • The energy you once had.
  • The version of yourself that felt more capable, independent, or certain.

I’m Jane, a counsellor offering a calm, compassionate space where you can slow down, process what’s changed, and begin finding your footing again at a pace that feels manageable for you.

You might be grieving something that others don’t fully see.

  • A role that has changed.
  • A relationship that feels different.
  • A version of life that has quietly shifted

How Therapy With Me Can Help

Life transitions and chronic health conditions can affect every part of life – emotionally, physically and psychologically.

When the world changes, people often expect you to simply “adjust” and carry on. But many people quietly experience the grief, fear, frustration, isolation, identity loss, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion beneath the surface.

Therapy offers a space where you don’t have to minimise what you’re carrying.

Together we can explore:

  • The emotional impact of chronic illness or health diagnosis
  • Living with M.E. or persistent fatigue
  • Identity changes after illness or life transitions
  • Feelings of grief, uncertainty or loss
  • Menopause and mid-life changes
  • Anxiety, overwhelm or low mood
  • The pressures of always being the strong one
  • Relationship changes with partners, family or colleagues
  • Adapting to a slower pace of life
  • Retirement, caring responsibilities or changing family roles

Over time, many people begin to feel:

  • More emotionally steady
  • Less alone in what they’re experiencing
  • More accepting of their needs without guilt
  • Clearer about how to move forward
  • Better able to cope with uncertainty and change
  • More connected to themselves again

My role is not to rush you forward, but to walk alongside you as you find your way through what life has changed.

My approach

I believe therapy works best when you feel able to exhale a little – when you don’t have to keep holding everything together or pretending you’re coping better than you are.

Feeling safe, understood and respected creates the fountain of meaningful change.

Life transitions and chronic illness often stir up deeper feelings around identity, pressure, self-worth, responsibility, and the expectations we place on ourselves.

Together, we gently explore these experiences while also finding practical ways to support you in everyday life.

Sessions move at your pace. Some people need space to process emotionally. Others find it helpful to explore practical strategies for managing overwhelm, anxiety, stress or the emotional impact of chronic health difficulties.

We shape the work around what feels most helpful and manageable for you.

A little about me

My work is shaped by both professional and personal understanding of how life can quietly change us through illness, loss, responsibility, unexpected transitions, and periods where simply getting through the day can feel exhausting.

Alongside supporting people through life transitions, I also have personal understanding of living with M.E., which can bring its own emotional challenges, losses, frustrations and misunderstandings that are often difficult to explain to others.

Clients often describe me as calm, grounded and compassionate. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe enough to be real – not strong, not composed, simply yourself.
