OUR NAME

The name Grey Matters Centre reflects the complexity of the human mind and the importance of psychological understanding. Our brains, often referred to as “grey matter”, shape how we think, feel and experience the world around us. At Grey Matters Centre, the name represents our commitment to thoughtful, compassionate and professional support for people navigating life’s challenges.

We chose the name Grey Matters because it reflects the incredible importance of the brain in everything we do. In therapy, understanding how the brain works helps us understand how we can heal – how we store memories, process emotions, and respond to the world around us.

Our brain plays a part in every thought, feeling and action. It holds our experiences, reacts instantly to our environment, and keeps us safe. When we go through painful or traumatic experiences, the brain can change its patterns of protection. This can show up as:

• feelings of threat or being unsafe
• low mood
• sleep difficulties
• phobias
• difficulties in relationships
• changes in concentration or emotional regulation
