Meet Karen
Supporting individuals, couples and families through relationship difficulties, baby loss, grief and emotional overwhelm.
Sometimes people reach out when communication has broken down, trust feels damaged, or the relationship feels distant and tense. Others come feeling lonely, exhausted, unsure whether things can improve, or carrying the pain of betrayal, separation or repeated conflict.
Some people come after loss. Some after years of coping. Some simply know something needs attention.
You do not need to arrive in crisis. You do not need to have the right words. You do not need to be certain before you begin.
I offer a warm, thoughtful and experienced space where you can slow things down, make sense of what is happening, and begin to move forward.
I am a qualified integrative counsellor with a Master’s degree in Relational Counselling.
Before training as a counsellor, I spent 35 years working with the NHS as a nurse, midwife and health visitor. Supporting people through vulnerable and life-changing moments has always been at the heart of my work.
I also have longstanding experienced supporting families affected by baby loss. I volunteered for over 25 years with Sands and established the local Sands group in this area so parents could access support closer to home.
I have previously worked with Relate and have extensive experience supporting couples and families with a wide range of relationship concerns.
How I Can Help
I work with individuals, couples and families.
I can support with:
- Repeated arguments and communication difficulties
- Feeling distant, disconnected or lonely in a relationship
- Distrust, betrayal or infidelity
- Separation or divorce
- Family conflict and relationship strain
- Baby loss and the impact on parents or wider family
- Grief and bereavement
- Anxiety, depression and post-natal depression
- Stress and emotional overwhelm
- Addictions
- Confidence and self-esteem difficulties
- Personal growth and healthier relationships
Whether you attend alone or together, therapy can offer a space to understand patterns, express what has been hard to say, and consider what needs to change.
How we work together:
I am an integrative counsellor , meaning I draw from different approaches depending on your needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model.
I particularly use a systemic approach, helping people explore how family history, life experiences, communication patterns and wider pressures may be affecting the present.
I also incorporates approaches such as:
- Solution-focused therapy
- Person-centred counselling
- Transactional analysis
My style is calm, empathic, genuine and non-judgemental.
What Therapy With Karen Can Feel Like
You can expect a safe and confidential space where concerns can be spoken about openly.
I will work at your pace, helping you feel heard rather than judged, supported rather than blamed.
Together, you can explore what is happening now, what may be sitting underneath it, and practical ways forward.
For couples, this may mean rebuilding communication, trust and connection.
For individuals, it may mean understanding patterns, strengthening confidence and reducing emotional distress.
For families, it may mean creating healthier ways to relate and respond.
