SPECIALISING IN ANXIETY, DEPRESSION AND TRAUMA
Are you struggling in an overwhelming world? Are you just managing to keep things afloat, exhausted by the effort but with no alternative to just keep going? Do you feel disconnected, isolated and alone, wondering when your next break is going to be with no work life balance? do you have low mood, feelings of hopelessness, flashbacks, panic attacks? Are you really low and depressed?
Using a person centred and person integrated approach, I can help you reflect on the wider picture, support you on your new journey to health, happiness an fulfilment. We will reflect on life events, how our responses to these can be triggers for negative thinking and behaviour; explore coping strategies around these and how to create new ones. You will begin to feel stronger and more confident as you start to listen to yourself and build a more resilient, more positive you.
I also work with art. I believe that words are not always enough, and that actions can sometimes speak louder? Sometimes we need to act out or project how we are feeling to express ourselves through other channels of communication, or tap into deeper feelings that may be lying dormant. with children, it is also non-verbal. Children do not always have the vocabulary or confidence to express how they are feeling. Whatever the child has experienced I will support them using the art media and ‘play’ to help them open up about what is troubling them. It provides a fun and safe environment to be themselves and be heard.
The family/caregiver can be as much involved with the process as they want to be.
Sometimes the child needs space to talk and express themselves when relationships at home are difficult or confusing. Parents/caregivers need to be conscious of how the therapy is progressing and if there is anything they can do at home to reinforce positive behaviour. Sometimes it is beneficial to have a parent join the therapy session to help build understanding in the relationship and strengthen the bond.
Young People
Is your child going through adolescence? Are they withdrawn or is there a noticeable change in their behaviour? Are they missing school, acting out? Do you want to communicate better with your child and understand what they are thinking or why they are behaving in a certain way?
When working with children I try to get as much background information as possible to get an understanding of what the child has been through or when the behaviour started. Art therapy is a non-confrontational way of working.
How we work together
After the initial assessment we will look at how best to tailor the support you need. We all have different requirements and different needs to be mindful and supportive of.
Through a mutual sharing and mindfulness in the therapeutic space, and with the upmost confidentiality, you will start to grow and trust again, and find a better place.
