I am an experienced Health Psychologist having worked in the NHS for over 15 years and in private practice for 4 years. I offer evidence-based therapies within a nurturing and compassionate therapeutic relationship.
Embarking on therapy requires courage and commitment on your part and I will work with you to pursue your desired therapy goals and help you achieve positive and long-lasting change in your life.
I use a personalised approach with each client to meet their unique set of needs and draw on a range of therapy models and techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), also Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
What treatment looks like
Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and are usually conducted weekly as this helps to maintain the flow of your therapy. We will initially discuss what you want to get out of the process and define your therapy goals, which can be reviewed as therapy progresses. We will then work together to develop a deeper understanding of the nature and origin of the problems you are experiencing. I will use the therapy models and techniques that best suit your needs and which will help you to achieve the psychological changes you are seeking.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I qualified in the use of EMDR in 2018 and have been using it on a regular basis ever since. EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has also been used to successfully treat a wide range of mental health problems including: anxiety and panic attacks, depression, stress, phobias, sleep problems, complicated grief, addictions, pain relief, self-esteem and performance anxiety.
Symptoms we struggle with in the here and now can be a result of distressing events and experiences from the past. EMDR works to resolve the traumatic memory in the brain so that the client can look back on the trauma without feeling the distress. Depending on the nature of past events, EMDR can produce results relatively quickly.
